Gatians 5:19-26 says: “The things your sinful old self wants to do are: sex sins, sinful desires, wild living, worshiping false gods, witchcraft, hating, fighting, being jealous, being angry, arguing, dividing into little groups and thinking the other groups are wrong, false teaching, anting something someone else has, killing other people, using strong drink, wild parties, and all things like these. I told you before and I am telling you again that those who do these things will have no place in the holy nation of God.
Galatians 5:22-26 says: "But the fruit that comes from having the Holy Spirit in our lives is: love, joy, peace, not giving up, being kind, being good, having faith being gentle, and being the boss over our own desires. The Law is not against these things. Those of us who belong to Christ have nailed our sinful old selves on His cross. Our sinful desires are now dead. If the Holy Spirit is living in us, let us be led by Him in all things. Let us not become proud in ways in which we should not. We must not make hard feelings among ourselves as Christians or make anyone jealous."
Those verses gives us incredible insight to some of the things the Bible declares as sin and the Fruit of the Spirit that is expected to be flowing in and through Believers. We are not called to try to do those things. They are a supernatural manifestation of the Holy Spirit. There is nothing wrong with trying to be a better person, but there is more. A lot more.
Romans 12:2 "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…." The Spirit of God and His fruit (Fruit of the Spirit) came to dwell in us as Believers, BUT we must renew our mind to allow the Holy Spirit to flow in us and through us to manifest His Fruit. We must go through a transformation, a transfiguration, a metamorphosis.
Following is the Strong’s concordance definition of the word “transformed” as used in Romans 12:2 “the obligation to undergo a complete change which, under the power of God, will find expression in character and conduct. And Morphe (metamorphosis) refers to an “inward change” (the inward man - Spirit) that will affect the outward man (the body and soul/mind).
Please notice the wording “the OBLIGATION to undergo a COMPLETE change which UNDER the POWER OF GOD”. It is not saying the transformation comes by or through your own willpower, determination or common sense, it comes by the power of God.
GALATIANS 5:16-17 says if you WALK BY THE SPIRIT AND YOU WON’T FULFILL THE LUST OF THE FLESH The desires of the flesh and it's sinful nature works in direct opposition of the Holy Spirit living/dwelling in us. If we are walking by the Spirit we will not succumb to sin.
James 1:6-7 says " But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord " Most people do not really understand the power of doubt and unbelief. Any type of doubt or unbelief can render your faith powerless and ineffective. In fact in Hebrews 3:17 it states the reason the Israelites wandered in the Wilderness for 40 years (for an 11 day joujrney) and did not enter the promised land was because of their "unbelief. "
